Liposuction Prices and Reviews in Malaysia 2023: A Practical Unbiased Guide

If you are looking for liposuction related information and liposuction prices in KL (Kuala Lumpur) or Malaysia, you've come to the right place. You have most likely browsed through various websites and hopefully, have shortlisted a few clinics or centres. However, it’s clear that some of these sites are not aware of the local regulations and the Guidelines on Aesthetic Medical Practice for Registered Medical Practitioners. For liposuction procedures in Malaysia, the guidelines define and stipulate who, what and where liposuction can be and cannot be done.

There are also too many self proclaimed experts out there, but who's to know? That's why the guidelines above were developed, in order to protect innocent consumers. In order to verify whether your doctor is licensed to do cosmetic surgery in Malaysia, you can check whether they have a LCP Chapter 3 license over at the National Registry Of Registered Medical Practitioners (RMP) With LCP Chapter 3. Liposuction procedures are to be conducted by plastic surgeons with LCP Chapter 3 license. Untrained doctors and beauticians, please do not attempt.

What is liposuction? Liposuction in Malaysia related information is all over on the internet. However, many sites are providing 'no meat on the bone' and confusing content. While some of the sites do provide the needed information; it's unfortunately not comprehensive enough to assist you in making the right informed decision.

Liposuction Prices in Malaysia

What is the cost of liposuction in Malaysia? Liposuction cost in Malaysia is relatively lower compared to other parts of the world.

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by medical insurance. The cost in Malaysia can range from RM 8,000 to RM 15,000. The prices vary depending on the clinic and the procedures. It is best to contact the clinics of your choice for up-to-date prices.

Looking for cheap liposuction? We understand that price is an important consideration, especially if you are a foreigner coming all the way to Malaysia. However, a big life-changing decision like liposuction; is not without risks, the main reason why a guideline was developed by the Malaysian Ministry of Health to ensure safety for the public.

Although pricing information on liposuction in Malaysia is everywhere on the internet, we have compiled and organised the information accordingly in one place. The pricing information below is based on the published prices from major centres and pricing information available on the internet.

The cost of liposuction treatment varies from surgeon to surgeon and may be dependent on the complexity of your case and your course of treatment. Consultation fees also vary from doctor to doctor. Some may offer a free initial assessment while others may charge a fee.

You are probably wondering why there is such a wide range in liposuction pricing. You will need to understand that the pricing depends on multiple factors. Here are some major factors that will influence the price:
  • Area and amount: The bigger the area and the more number of areas to be treated, the higher will be the cost. The higher amount of fat to be removed, the higher will be the cost. Common areas for liposuction include face liposuction (double chin), abdomen, thighs, hips, love handles or flanks, back and buttocks.
  • General Anesthesia (GA) or Local Anesthesia (LA): If the liposuction procedure involves a large area or requires a substantial amount of fat removal, it has to be done under GA. For GA, another medical specialist, an anesthesiologist/anesthetist must be present and this translates to another professional cost for you. Therefore, the price for liposuction under GA will be higher than LA.
  • OT (operation theatre) or Clinic: Some minor invasive procedures are done in the clinic but the air in the clinic is not sterile enough for an invasive procedure like liposuction. The risk of infection is higher in the clinic as compared with the risk in an operation theatre. According to guidelines, liposuction needs to be done in either a licensed medical centre or an ambulatory care centre (ACC) with well equipped operation theatre. Some doctors might take the risk of doing it in the clinic so that the cost is lower.
  • Hospital fee: Similar with hotel rooms, hospital room rates vary from hospital to hospital.
  • Post surgical complication: In the event of a complication, you may need to prolong your hospital admission or to be admitted again and this will incur additional cost. For international customers, we do recommend that you cover yourself with a travel insurance that will cover you in the event of a post-surgical complication.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Cost Malaysia

You may need to understand the difference between liposuction and tummy tuck so that you have better clarity of what you paying for. Liposuction (whatever method is used) primarily removes fat from below the skin surface and provides a moderate amount of skin tightening due to scar contracture.

A tummy tuck does several things:

  • Removes abdominal skin that is in excess, and resets the tone to the remaining skin
  • Removes some fat from the abdomen
  • Redistributes skin and fat from the upper abdomen to the lower, effectively thinning the abdominal wall skin/fat thickness
  • Tightens the abdominal wall musculature, which both flattens the stomach from the side view as well as pulling in the waist to improve the "hour glass" shape
Very simply, the tummy tuck reverses the changes caused by childbearing, and is typically the appropriate operation for mothers or individuals who have undergone significant weight fluctuation. Liposuction is for fat contouring in individuals who have resistant areas of localised fat and also have good skin tone. If skin tone is bad (lax, or with stretch marks), the results from liposuction may be disappointing.

Who Can Perform Smart Lipo, Vaser Lipo and Cool Lipo?

Can any medical doctor perform Smart Lipo in Malaysia? How do they get certified to perform the procedure?

These questions have been addressed by the Aesthetic Medical Practice Guidelines of the Ministry of Health. Liposuction techniques including Smart Lipo, Vaser Lipo and Cool Lipo and traditional liposuction (tumescent liposuction) are mainly performed by plastic surgeons, in accordance to the aesthetic practice guidelines. General Practitioners (with LCP Chapter 1) are not allowed to perform liposuction procedures in Malaysia, although we do see some advertisements by GP clinics offering liposuction services. Please do a thorough research when choosing your doctor.

Here are some answers from medical professionals.

It is not a question of who can but who should be doing Smartlipo - David Berman MD
my answer is going to upset some fellow physicians but so be it. as the above physicians have pointed out, anyone that has an MD can do anything legally. however it begs the question, should they?? i found it very interesting that not one plastic surgeon answered the question above- one was a dermatologist and the other 2 were drs. As a plastic surgeon, the biggest reservation i have with non-plastic surgeons doing Smartlipo, is that they are in the position of having to offer either Smartlipo or nothing. The reason that is important is that over 80% of the patients that come to me for Smartlipo are not good candidates for Smartlipo in my opinion. They would be better served by either a Tummy tuck or ultrasonic liposuction - both done in the OR under general anesthesia. however, only a plastic surgeon should be doing these latter 2 techniques (and perhaps Smartlipo, though obviously that will be debated). if you have only a hammer than everything you see tends to look like a nail. this is not to say, that non-plastic surgeons doing Smartlipo will be more open to doing patients who may be better served with another technique, but it is certainly a higher risk because they lack all of the tools that a plastic surgeon has at his disposal.

Proper training is required to perform Liposuction procedure and one must do a thorough research before selecting a doctor.
In UAE Liposuction can't be performed by physicians, it is performed almost exclusively by Plastic Surgeons. I agree with other doctor that it was invented by a gynecologist and further refined by a dermatologist but it doesn't mean all physicians can perform the similar nature of work. I have special interest in treating revision cases of Liposuction and i can say that one should do a thorough research when selecting the doctor as any complications from liposuction is much more difficult to treat.

Cool Lipo on Hips, Thighs and Buttocks - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

31 Jan 2014
I knew that my consultation was the same day and that at any stage I could back out. So I went in for my consultation and the doctor had already seen my photos and suggested hips, thighs and buttocks. I have a very small waist and this tends to make my lower half look a lot bigger than what it is. I am a very small build so generally people think why am I doing this but really I just want to be able to fit standard clothing nicely. I will post some before photos so you can see what I mean. I am 5'4" and weighed (before the procedure) 47 kilos...

23 Feb 2014 (after 4 weeks)
Back at the gym now. Taking it slowly though. A quick 5km walk every second day on top,of my dog walking I do every day. My measurements are definitely changing and I'm looking a lot better in jeans.

Lipo in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Vaser Liposuction Review

Jul 3, 2011

Hi guys, I researched and contemplated for about 4 years and now have actually done it!!!

Thought I'd post this for those of you like me. I am an Australia who has come up to KL to see a world renowned surgeon with expertise in this field.

For years I attended cycle classes and body pump - in fact at stages I have been an exercise addict. If I couldn't make the gym it was close to the world ending. Despite this, and costly personal trainers,I could not achieve the results I wanted and rid the line of fat on my inner thigh, saddlebags on the outer and back of hips. In fact exercise just developed the muscle underneath, making the fat pocket pop out more. Diet made my face look haggard and achieved comments of concern from others as to whether I was well.

Has lipo fixed it? Absolutely! I couldn't be happier. I had 3 1/2 litres removed (wanted more but the surgeon said that was max for me). In the end he took it off my legs, hips and stomach (the latter to allow my muscle tone to show through)...

My word of advice, though, research your surgeon well. You pay a little more for expertise and excellence that is well worth it in the end. (Believe it or not I came here because I couldn't find anybody I was comfortable with in my Aussie state) Good luck. Will try to post photos later.

Liposuction Overview Video

Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery that removes fat from the human body in an attempt to change its shape. Other similar or closely related jargons include lipoplasty, smart lipo, fat modeling, liposculpture, suction lipectomy, suction-assisted fat removal, lipo, tummy tuck, abdominoplasty etc.

Liposuction is the fastest way for one to lose stubborn and unwanted fat from the arms, abdomen, back, thighs and buttocks – areas which may not respond quickly enough to traditional weight-loss methods of diet and exercise.

Different Types of Liposuction?

"I'm confused on all the different names for Liposuction. Which one is the right one and how will I know I am getting what I am supposed to get?"

To read the answers provided by 7 medical doctors:
https://www.realself.com/question/confused-names-liposuction

Here is the summary:

We are in an era of intensive marketing, inflated claims, and frankly a lot of misinformation about liposuction so you are not alone in being confused. One thing you will hear consistently from the docs on RealSelf is that it is more important to choose your surgeon than to base your decision on technology or brand-name. That said, here are a few pointers: All forms of liposuction use what is called a "wet" technique, in which the fat to be removed is injected with a dilute numbing solution. If that is the only anesthesia used, it may be called "tumescent" technique, but that is an anesthesia method, not a different lipo method...

Richard Baxter, MD

Tumescent liposuction is the gold standard for surgical fat removal and has a long safety record. While the internet is a wonderful source of information, it can also cause a lot of confusion because so many people are trying to call attention to themselves through innovative marketing techniques and rebranding. Liposuction, liposculpture, Vaser 4d – all of these are variations on tumescent liposuction...

Mitchel P. Goldman, MD

The confusion about types of liposuction comes from companies hyping their machines. So far there is no evidence that one device is better than another. What is clear, however, is that there is a great deal of difference between the results obtained by highly experience liposuction surgeons and those who dabble in this procedure.

William P. Coleman III, MD

Conclusion

As a summary and also as a checklist, below are important factors for you to remind yourself so that you have a successful liposuction procedure in Malaysia:
  1. Choosing the correct doctor
  2. Doing the procedure in the right place
  3. Do's and don'ts after the procedure (post-op)
Hope this post has helped you in some way to better understand liposuction procedures in Malaysia.
